Lead Business Intelligence Analyst
• Architect enterprise-grade data transformation and semantic modeling frameworks.
• Led the modernization of reporting ecosystems
• Defined and enforced engineering best practices

Woolworths Group India is partnering exclusively with Zinnov Group to recruit for this position.

About the role

As a Lead Business Intelligence Analyst, you are the technical architect of the platform’s data transformation layers and centralized semantic infrastructure. Operating as an expert individual contributor with deep coaching responsibilities, you will architect robust, enterprise-grade data models that serve as the absolute source of truth across the group. You will lead the modernisation of our reporting ecosystem, translating legacy business logic into optimised, code-driven pipelines and unified semantic models (e.g. leveraging dbt and LookML). Along with managing a dedicated pool of team members, you will define the standards for engineering rigor—championing CI/CD, defensive coding, and automated data testing frameworks. By governing the platform’s core semantic logic and cultivating a distributed development model, you will empower both core and federated teams to safely contribute to our unified code repositories without risking production stability.

What you’ll do
• Successfully translate highly ambiguous, complex enterprise briefs into structured, long-term data schemas and advanced analytical data products that serve as the single source of truth across the group
• Define and govern the overarching platform architecture for the centralized semantic layers (dbt and LookML), ensuring global logic definitions remain bulletproof, secure, and ready to safely power natural language querying for business users by
• Design and enforce strict BI guardrails across data pipelines, implementing automated data quality tests (e.g., dbt assertions, Great Expectations), defensive coding practices, continuous integration, and continuous deployment (CI/CD) workflows to block breaking changes from entering production environments
• Champion the operational transition toward federated development models, building the tooling, documentation, and workflow standards that allow external product squads to safely contribute to centralized dbt and Looker repositories
• Direct the technical progression and BI capabilities of mid-level and senior BI Analysts through structured architectural reviews, code feedback loops, and individual problem-solving sponsorship
• Drive the strategic integration of Generative AI capabilities directly into squad workflows, identifying architecture patterns where AI can augment engineering speed, precision, and pipeline automation
• Partner with senior leadership and technology executives across the Group, acting as the primary technical advisor capable of translating data infrastructure limitations and architectural decisions into clear business risk/reward scenarios
• Propose and implement improvement initiatives and provide training/coaching to the team.
• Provide direct line leadership to a team of BI analysts, taking ownership of their performance management, conducting regular 1-on-1s, and designing tailored career development paths to foster a high-performing, engaged, and retention-focused team.

What you’ll bring
• Master-level ability to design, structure, and justify complex enterprise-wide dimensional models and data schemas from highly ambiguous, cross-functional briefs
• Comprehensive track record of designing dbt repository structures, building custom macros, implementing automated data quality testing assertions, and scaling warehouse performance
• Proven experience architecting large-scale Looker instances, managing global LookML projects, establishing semantic layer governance, and implementing strict row-level security (RLS) configurations
• Demonstrated experience in or exposure to enterprise BI architectures (ideally MicroStrategy, BusinessObjects, or Cognos) and translating their semantic structures into code-driven frameworks.
• Advanced experience in BI and visualisation tools (e.g. Looker Studio, Tableau, MicroStrategy), including performance optimization and storytelling through data.
• Solid conceptual and practical understanding of end-to-end data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow (Cloud Composer)
• Mastery of version control (Git) best practices and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, with a focus on building defensive checks to prevent pipeline failures
• Experience designing and executing distributed development frameworks, allowing external business squads to safely contribute code to centralized analytics repositories without breaking production code
• Proven track record of fostering a high-performing engineering culture by delivering growth-focused code reviews, sponsoring professional development, and coaching Senior and Mid-Level engineers
• Outstanding communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, effortlessly translating infrastructure limitations or technical architecture plans into clear commercial risk/reward profiles
• Proven ability to drive an “AI-first” strategic technical vision, leading the team in identifying and evaluating advanced AI workflows to optimize process automation and enhance natural language querying
• Actively mentor and upskill junior and mid-level analysts by championing best practices in SQL, data modeling, dashboard design, and business storytelling, while facilitating collaborative growth through structured peer-reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions
• 7+ years of dedicated professional experience spanning Business Intelligence, or Data Engineering tracks
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Business Analytics, or a highly quantitative technical discipline

What you’ll experience
• Be a part of Australia’s largest retailer
• Constant mentoring and training provided
• Generous performance based bonus
• 20 days annual leave
• A flexible approach to work
• Premium insurance coverage for you and your dependants
